    What are Ammolite Fossils?

Very simply put; Ammolite fossils are the iridescent portion of the Aragonite shell belonging to the extinct animal named Ammonite.

The Ammonite was a squid-like creature that went extinct around 65 million years ago. After extinction, a very small number of the Ammonites shells became the beautiful iridescent Ammolite fossils we see today. In order for it to become so beautiful over millions of years, it has to be fully covered by something with no oxygen access, not eaten by another species, and not have any extreme temperature change. That’s a lot of special circumstances! Therefore, you’ll find Ammolites to be quite rare and hard to come by.

    How old are Ammolite fossils?

Ammolite fossils are between 72 to 75 Million years old.

    -

    Where are Ammolites found?

They can only be found in the Bearpaw Formation in Alberta Canada, which adds even more to their rarity.

    Ammolite metaphysical properties:

Old, powerful Earth energy is where my mind instantly goes. When I look at the natural shifting color, I am reminded there is an entire universe of possibilities out there. I also find the ocean symbolism of cleansing, renewal, and taking back one’s power to be present here.
